Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair reduction, also known as laser hair removal, is a cosmetic procedure that uses concentrated beams of light to remove unwanted hair from different parts of the body. The laser emits a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles, which in turn damages or destroys the hair follicles, inhibiting hair growth.
Here's an overview of the laser hair reduction process:
- Preparation: Prior to the treatment, the hair in the targeted area will usually be trimmed to a few millimeters above the skin's surface. The laser equipment will be adjusted based on the color, thickness, and location of the hair, as well as your skin tone.
- Eye Protection: Both you and the technician performing the procedure will be required to wear appropriate eye protection to shield your eyes from the laser light.
- Application of Cooling Gel: A cooling gel or numbing cream may be applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort and protect the outer layers of the skin.
- Laser Treatment: The technician will use a handheld laser device and deliver pulses of laser light to the treatment area. The laser emits a controlled amount of heat, which is absorbed by the hair follicles, damaging their ability to produce hair.
- Post-treatment Care: After the procedure, you may experience some redness, swelling, or a sunburn-like sensation in the treated area. Applying a cool compress or aloe vera gel can help soothe the skin. It's essential to follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your provider, which may include avoiding direct sunlight, using sunscreen, and avoiding certain skin care products for a few days.
